INTERCONNEKTED
Gilbert Cordina, widely known by his moniker “Interconnekted,” was born in 1977 on the island of Malta, nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Gilbert’s journey into the world of electronic music began at the age of 17, when he immersed himself in the thriving party scene of the Maltese islands. Influenced by groundbreaking artists such as The Future Sound of London, Aphex Twin, and Warp Records, Gilbert’s early experiences laid the foundation for his unique musical path.
In 1998, Gilbert co-founded his first experimental chillout project with his friend Joseph Zammit. Armed with an Akai sampler and a 24-channel mixer, they delved into the complexities of music production during a time when technology posed significant challenges. Driven by a thirst for deeper inspiration, Gilbert embarked on transformative travels to India, Thailand, and Australia.
Asia marked Gilbert’s first encounter with the hypnotic sounds of Goa Trance. This was followed by a series of psychedelic parties in Australia, including an unforgettable live performance by Infected Mushroom during their “Classical Mushroom” era. These experiences reignited Gilbert’s passion for music production, and he began experimenting with Propellerhead Reason, a groundbreaking digital audio workstation.
By 2003, Gilbert returned to Malta with a renewed vision. He decided to pursue music professionally and began playing Psytrance DJ sets at intimate psychedelic parties organized by Colin Piscopo under the banner of “Planet Trance,” the sole Goa and Psytrance event organizer in Malta at the time. These gatherings, though small, were transformative—offering high-quality music, enchanting locations, and an unforgettable sense of community.
In 2004, Gilbert and Colin joined forces, launching the Psytrance project “Soul Kontakt.” Their collaboration bore fruit with the release of their first track, “Hypnotized,” on YSE Records in 2006. The duo’s debut EP, “Deliverance,” was released on the renowned free music label Ektoplazm, garnering over 15,000 downloads and widespread acclaim.
In 2010, Soul Kontakt’s track “Future Memory” featured on the “Cosmic Connections – Chapter 1” compilation by BMSS Records, a German label run by Armin Boomshankar. Shortly thereafter, Gilbert and Colin decided to pursue separate creative directions. While Colin continued with Soul Kontakt, Gilbert founded his solo project, “Interconnekted,” aiming to craft a distinct vision of Psytrance—a powerful, immersive morning journey through sound.
As Interconnekted, Gilbert showcased his music across Europe. He performed DJ sets at Somuna (Switzerland) and Cosmic (Edinburgh), and delivered his first live performances at the 72 Hours DMT Party (Switzerland) and in various Maltese events. His debut EP, “Full Galaxy,” was released on BMSS Records, and his evolving sound reached new heights with live sets at the Transition Party (Spain) and the Ozora 2011 After Party. These events further solidified Interconnekted as a name synonymous with high-energy, spiritually uplifting Psytrance.
In 2013, Gilbert embarked on a five-month journey through South America, exploring Argentina, Bolivia, and Peru. This transformative experience provided relaxation, inspiration, and a creative spark for his next album. Returning to Malta in 2014, Gilbert rebuilt his studio and refined his sound. His new music embraced a “foresty” edge while retaining his signature style, and he tuned his productions to 432Hz—a frequency often associated with harmony and healing.
Interconnekted’s work is celebrated for its meticulous craftsmanship and ability to guide listeners through intense yet beautiful sonic experiences. The project has become a landmark in the Psytrance community, touching the hearts of fans worldwide. Gilbert Cordina continues to push boundaries, blending spirituality, music, and innovation to create transformative journeys for the dancefloor and beyond.
